In return to burgeoning demand to provide space for Spanish-speaking workforce in construction industry, the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) has proposed to hold its mobile crane operator written examination in Spanish.

The Spanish-language written examination is a direct conversion of the English-language examination for mobile crane operator. The Commission is planning to introduce the written exams for mobile crane operators together with the Telescopic Boom Crane, Telescopic Boom Crane, and Lattice Boom Crawler Crane operator exams. The commission has decided to publish all load charts – Manitex Boom Truck, Grove Rough Terrain, and Manitowoc – in Spanish language.

It has constituted a technical review group who shall be tasked to prepare Spanish-language CCO exams. In addition the review group would also craft the language so as to make sure the technical terminologies used in crane industry are prepared keeping the international standards on mind. The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators decides to prepare operator exams with the same level of difficulty and competence what their CCO English papers carry.

The new Spanish-language exams are probable to arrange for valued support to managers who wish to make sure the selected Spanish-speaking workforces meet the standard OSHA 1926 CFR Subpart CC requirement. It is highly supposed that the new exam models can make the operators understand all the technical facets of mobile crane systems.

“NCCCO is committed to maintaining the same standard for all its aspirants, whether they are English-speaking or Spanish-speaking. We are confident that the new exams provide a level playing field for candidates for whom English is not their first language.” said NCCCO Director of Operations and Program Development, Joel Oliva.
